The impressive north wall is highly visible from the highway. The scramble route is around the back side, but is challenging as well.
Head east from Monroe. Just past Index you come to the rail stop of Baring.
Turn off the highway (across the street from Der Baring Store) and cross the
tracks. Continue up that forest road until it ends at the Barclay Lake
trailhead. Do not take the Barclay Lake trail -- follow the old roadbed past a
large boulder and pit toilet.
The trail leaves the roadbed at a creek and heads straight up. Stay more or less in the creekbed for several hundred feet of vertical. Some trails appear to head off into the forest, but they will fade out.
Climb to the ridgeline, about 1800 feet above. Very steep, poor trail, some blowdowns, some minor rock scrambling.
Follow a pretty good climber's path along the top of the ridge past a few
minor high points. Follow the path off the south side of the ridge as it
bypasses a rocky outcrop. After a traverse, the trail breaks up and heads
straight up about 800 feet to regain the ridge.
From this location you can see a notch between the main summit and the south summit. Cross the bowl and climb to the notch.
Climb a steep rock or snow step, then follow more gentle slopes to the
summit slabs. This step is the most exposed part of the climb, and may feature
steep snow.
Follow the climbing route.
The winter route climbs from the south instead of from Barclay Creek.
