Everyone I know calls this Mount Ruth. The USGS calls it Ruth Mountain. Read Beckey to find some other interesting history about the name of this peak.

I've only been here in the summer, so I'm recommending it in the summer. However, I'm told it's a nice backcountry ski trip.

Ascent

Go to the Hannegan Pass trailhead and follow the trail to Hannegan Pass.

Mount RuthAt the pass, hang a right and move south. There is one high point between the pass and Ruth -- traverse it on the east side.

The rest of the way to the summit is a straightforward snow climb. The route does go over a glacier. I can't tell you not to worry about crevasses -- that's your call. I was glad I didn't bother to bring along a rope, and I don't think many people do.

The summit looks out at Icy Peak, Mount Shuksan (the Price Glacier and Nooksack Tower), and of course Mount Baker. Fantastic views. It would be possible to camp on the summit.

Descent

Follow the climbing route.
